TOM International is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides health care to underserved communities, emergency assistance to calamity stricken areas, and support to underprivileged students in the Philippines.
Our primary focus is conducting medical clinics in areas where medical care is limited or difficult to obtain through the support of qualified volunteer doctors, dentists, and other health care professionals as well as non-medical volunteers. We also work with local governments to help coordinate relief in areas affected by natural disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes.
We believe that as an alumni association, we can mobilize
enormous amounts of resources among our alumni members worldwide.
To realize our world vision, we, the members of the Tau Omega Mu International have mapped out three areas of outreach programs;
We believe that as an alumni association, we can mobilize enormous amounts of resources among our alumni members worldwide for the mitigation of human suffering and the promotion of peace through international initiatives on education, health care and poverty alleviation in the Developing World. As university graduates and professionals, the alumni members of the Tau Omega Mu International are uniquely equipped to provide financial, networking, expertise and human resources to the task of mobilizing international resources where they are most acutely needed. To that end, we see ourselves working hand in hand with our friends and institutional partners throughout the world to bring that vision into fruition.
Imbued with this sense of purpose, we, the members of Tau Omega Mu International have banded together, pooling our resources, wealth of experience and lofty aspirations to share our blessings with the most needy populations of the Developing World. We aim to equip a new generation of youth with opportunities of education and technology as they become the new vanguards for peace and prosperity in their own communities.
Forty five years ago, 22 students of the University of the Philippines banded together to form the Tau Omega Mu Fraternity. The Greek letters Tau Omega Mu stands for “The Outstanding Master,” the embodiment of the publicly supported scholar they envision themselves to become. Each one of them believed in the principle that to change the world you have to start with yourself. All of them aspired to become not only the master of their own destiny but the future master of an enlightened and humanistic society. They eschewed the allure of corporate success and the countervailing seduction of violent rebellion.
From a handful of idealistic students, the vision has now spread among thousands of professional graduates of several universities throughout the Philippines. They are now spread around the world practicing their respective trades as accountants, nurses, doctors, economists, lawyers, soldiers, journalists, etc., creating a positive imprint in the world they live in. Having received generous scholarships in college to attain their dream careers, they all believe that it is now time to give back, to pay forward the blessings they received that brought them to where they are today.
We, the men and women alumni of the Tau Omega Mu Fraternity and Ladies Circle, founded the non-profit organization Tau Omega Mu International to bring our collective dreams to reality. The objects of our bounty are not limited to the underprivileged classes of the Philippines were we came from but to the larger international community of the Developing World. From the excesses and surpluses of the society around us, we can see bountiful resources that can be used for outreach to the refugees of war and calamities. From the trash bins of our outdated technology, we see computerized education for the barefoot students of the far flung barrios. From the dregs of war, drugs and poverty, we can see a future of young men and women empowered to escape the cycle of despair and become the new agents of hope.
